I decided to close the year out with a summary of new Criminal Laws enacted by the NY Legislature for 2011. My favorite: The New York State Child Passenger Protection Act, commonly referred to as Leandra's Law. The law was enacted in response to the October 2009 accident when Leandra Rosado was thrown from a car that was driven by a drunk driver. Let's make sure nobody ever gets into a vehicle after they have been drinking! David Lesch, Esq.

I ended my "family law" series with the dreaded "D" word: Divorce. If you live in New York, you might be surprised to know that the state has finally adopted a no-fault divorce policy. This means that a couple need not prove any wrongdoing or abuse to file for divorce in a court of law. Many though believe that the NY legislature did not think this change all the way through. Tune in tonight at 10 pm to hear why. David Lesch Esq.

This morning I filled in for Daren Jaime as host of the morning show "Open". I did manage to continue my "famlily law series", albeit briefly, discussing "abuse and neglect" as it relates to our youth. You have a moral, and sometimes a legal responsibility, to report any hints of either to the Administration for Child Services, or you local police precinct. Please do. Every child needs to know that society is looking out for them. David Lesch, Esq.
