OPEN, 1/22/20

On this week’s Open TV I discussed two issues facing Landlords and Employers in 2020:
2020 brought in much needed reforms to the rent overcharge law.  The most significant change was the ability to now open for examination the entire rental history of the apartment, from the beginning of time.  The Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act of 2019 is now part of our everyday life.
Also, the Stop Sexual Harassment in NYC Act, which imposed new requirements on employers relating to sexual harassment prevention, is now if full force and effect.  An individual complaining of harassment need not prove the challenged conduct was “severe or pervasive”, but merely that it “subjects an individual to inferior terms…of employment”.  It’s a big win for employees.
The segment is now online.

TODAY'S VERDICT, 1/14/20

It’s our first show of the new year and we started it with a bang!
The Child Victim Act is a new piece of legislation that allows someone who has been abused during their youth to seek justice through the court system.  It’s a very important law.  That is why we had David Oddo, Esq the former President of the New York Trial Lawyers on set to help our viewers us navigate this new area of the law.
Next up, our viewers most requested topic of December:  Identity Theft.  Luckily we have you covered.  David Schlanger, Esq was our expert.  His best tip:  Check those three credit agencies constantly, and watch out for gas station skimmers.
Finally, are you getting married?  You might think about a prenuptial contract.  A well known family attorney made a second visit to Today’s Verdict to educate our audience.
The show aired last night and is now online:
